We at Grace Evangelical Free Church believe that there are five habits that must be intentionally practiced in order to be a fruitful church that accomplishes its mission of making disciples by reaching and teaching all people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. One of these five habits is “Intentional Faith Development.”
Starting in fall of 2014, through the Adult Communities, Grace will begin a systematic approach to intentional faith development. Each of the current multi-generational Adult Communities, Mosaic, Crosswalk, and Second Wind, will be participating. We have developed a plan that is composed of twelve courses that cover the Essentials of the Faith. Each Adult Community will operate essentially as it has before, but now these twelve courses will be incorporated into the rotation of topics.
The goal is to provide great flexibility in how each class is run, but at the same time provide a comprehensive approach to learning the basics of the Christian Faith. The calendar year will be divided into three distinct terms. Each year, a community will spend one or two terms studying one or two of the Essentials. The other term or two is devoted to an elective topic chosen by the Adult Community and its leaders. In this way, each Adult Community can customize their topics to their particular needs and interests, and still cover the twelve essentials in nine years. If someone desires to get through all the Essentials of the Faith as quickly as possible, that individual can switch to a different class after each term—choosing an Adult Community that is studying the next essential.
Our desire is that through these essentials and through these communities of believers living and studying together, we will grow into the disciples God calls us to be. Please join us!
