Old Testament Survey 1 & 2
What is the purpose of spending so much time—six months, in fact—trying to see how the whole Old Testament fits together? There are several reasons. First, there is much about the New Testament that doesn't make sense to us until we understand the foundation laid in the Old Testament. Second, many of the important themes, such as the problem of sin, God's promise and covenant, the need for atonement, and how God's judgments of the people of Israel were for their good, are understood best when the whole is seen at once. The first course takes us from the beginning through the life of David (Genesis through 2 Samuel), plus Job, Psalms and Proverbs. The second course takes us from Solomon through the exile and return—including all of the prophetic books and the rest of the poetic books.
